Luke 4:38-40 - “And he arose and left the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they appealed to him on her behalf. And he stood over her and rebuked the fever and it left her, and immediately she rose and began to serve them. Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them.”
This is one of the most incredible healing scenes in the Bible. John said that there were many miracles Jesus did that he didn’t record, and this is one of those occasions. Everyone who had any illness or ailment or disease brought them to Jesus and they were healed. Dozens? Hundreds? Thousands?
The word I want to consider today is the Greek word for “healed.” In the language of Jesus’ day, the word was “therapeuo.” You can hear the word “therapy” or “therapeutic”. This is a word that Luke the doctor would be familiar with. The first century world had more medicines and therapy than you might think. But Luke had not seen any therapy like Jesus! That’s the thought for today. Turn to Jesus in whatever ails you or pain you’re experiencing and seek a miracle. He is the best therapy there is.
